Underground Gas Storage Lease
Gridlync land and infrastructure glossary.
An underground gas storage lease grants the right to inject and store natural gas in a subsurface reservoir, such as a depleted field or salt cavern, and to withdraw it later. It involves both subsurface storage rights and surface facilities. The lease combines subsurface storage rights with surface leases for wells and compression, and storage lets operators balance seasonal demand by banking gas underground. Payment often combines a per-acre rent with a fee tied to the volume stored.
Storage projects combine subsurface rights with surface leases and pipeline access. Gridlync keeps the full set of agreements organized for each facility.
Example
Cavern Energy signs an underground gas storage lease with the Reinhardt family to use a depleted reservoir beneath their ranch, paying $50,000 a year plus a fee per Bcf stored, and separately leasing 5 surface acres for injection wells and compressors.
